Stock is one of the few beautifully scented flowers left in an age of mass-commercially grown blooms. It belongs to the mustard family & contains around 50 species of plant. The most common species grown for the cut flower industry is the double flowered matthiola incana and is native to Europe, parts of Asia & North Africa.
Stock was once cultivated for medicinal purposes and was thought to be both an aphrodisiac & stimulant as well as an antidote for poisonous bites.
In the Victorian Language of Flowers, stock means 'you will always be beautiful to me' & represents contentment. A perfect vase flower for your home & in season now!
